The Pharaoh’s Curse
[ez-toc]
The pharaoh’s curse is thought to be a retribution meted out by the gods of ancient Egypt to anyone who irritates the pharaoh’s eternal Rest. Anyone who wakes the mummy-like Thieves, Tomb Raiders, and Archaeologists from their perpetual slumber will suffer from illness, and bad fortune, and even pass away due to the curse. Despite the fact that numerous stories of curses existed even dating back to the 19th century, the curse gained enormous popularity throughout the world after the famed Egyptologist “Howard Carter” discovered King Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings in 1922. Although the pharaoh’s curse is widely acknowledged to be a supernatural occurrence, numerous documentaries have suggested that it may actually exist because all of the illnesses and unfortunate events might be brought on by modern scientific agents such as bacteria, poisonous gases, or even radiation.
The final resting site of Pharaoh Tutankhamun was discovered on November 4th, 1922, thanks to an expedition funded by “Lord Carnarvon” and headed by archaeologist “Howard Carter” and his colleagues. The find, which was covered by the international press, caught everyone’s interest and inaugurated the modern era of Egyptology. Five months after the discovery, “Lord Carnarvon” succumbed to blood poisoning, and some members of the crew began to have strange, unexplained deaths. According to renowned novelist “Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,” mysterious “elements” produced by ancient Egyptian priests to protect the tombs and their rich treasures are to blame for “Lord Carnarvon’s” demise. His comments, coupled with the strange unexplained deaths, sparked a media frenzy around the globe.
The enclosed chambers of the tombs can, according to modern science, house dangerous concentrations of bacteria and gases that can harm or even kill anyone with a weakened immune system. However, only eleven of the fifty-eight visitors to Tut’s tomb perished, including Howard Carter, who died in 1939 at the age of 64. But a great deal of terrible and weird things started happening, including the electronic equipment malfunctioning strangely and the majority of the staff becoming ill with unexplainable illnesses.
Through thriller and horror films, comic comics, video games, and fictitious books, the curse managed to enter the current period. You can choose to believe whatever you want, whether it’s the pharaoh’s magical work from beyond the grave, it’s just a coincidence, it’s pure science, or it’s none of the above. Also, don’t forget that the human mind has the incredible capacity to turn reality into fiction, or in this case, a work of horror.
