The temples were dismantled and moved in 1968 to a desert plateau 64 meters (about 200 feet) above and 180 meters (600 feet) west of their original location. The area where they were originally located is now underwater as a result of the decision to build a new High Dam at Aswan in the early 1960s.

You will later accompany your guide to the Amada Temple, which was initially constructed by Pharaoh Thutmose III, who ruled during the 18th dynasty. Amenhotep II, who succeeded him after his death, carried on enhancing the original temple’s construction and its ornamentation. Thutmose IV, Amenhotep’s successor, restarted a number of changes after his death, including adding a roof to cover the open-style courtyard of the original temple.
Then you will go to the Temple of Derr. Ramses II is unquestionably one of the most well-known historical figures in Egypt because of his protracted and successful rule as well as the numerous temples and structures he erected during this time. Due to its initial location on the eastern coast of the Nile, where few other structures were built, and the fact that it is an exceptionally excellent example of the pharaoh’s favorite rock cut style, the Temple of Derr stands out as a special treasure in this regard.
Finally, you will see the Tomb of Peanut. If you take a straight road away from the two temples, you will soon come upon one of Egypt’s most unusual sights: a rock-cut tomb that belonged to a Viceroy of Kush. This particular tomb is particularly intriguing since, like the neighboring temples, it was also moved from its original location to protect it from flooding brought on by the Aswan High Dam’s construction in the 1960s.
