Who is King Khufu?

During the ancient Egyptian era, King Khufu is regarded as one of the most significant kings to have ruled Egypt. From 2589 B.C. until 2566 B.C., he was the ruler of Egypt during the Old Kingdom (2686-2150 BC). He replaced his father on the Egyptian throne and rose to become the second king of the 4th dynasty. He was the son of King Seneferu and Queen Hetepheres. He had fifteen daughters and nine boys through his marriages to two queens named Merities and Henutsen.

King Khufu History

The great pyramid of Giza, one of the seven wonders of the world and the epitome of ancient Egypt, was built by King Khufu, also known as King Cheops in Greek. He is recognized as one of the most significant kings in ancient Egyptian history. His full name was Khnum-Khufu, which translates to “Khnum Protects Me” in ancient Egyptian. Khnum was the ram-headed god of fertility, reproduction, and water. Except for a tiny figure made of ivory that was found in Abydos city and was once on display at the Egyptian Museum before being transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum, King Khufu “Cheops” has no prestige at all.

Achievements of King Khufu

1. The Great Pyramid of Giza

The 480 ft [146.7 m] tall Great Pyramid of Giza was constructed between 2580 and 2560 BC over a period of 20 years. Hemiunu created it using 2.3 million limestone blocks, each weighing 25 tonnes, and more than 100,000 workers working in various shifts. For approximately 4,000 years, it held the record for the tallest man-made building in the entire globe. The Great Pyramid, according to King Khufu, was his staircase to heaven, where he would take up his rightful place among the gods. The Great Pyramid was the first of its kind because it had smooth sides instead of stairs and sides that exactly matched the cardinal points of a compass. King Khufu thought the Great Pyramid, which contained his own tomb in the king’s chamber, was his personal gateway to paradise. Even today, people travel from all over the world to learn about the pyramid’s exact architectural design, both on the exterior and inside.

2. Solar Boat

The most unusual relic in the entire globe, not just in Egypt, is the solar boat of King Khufu. Given that it has been standing for more than 4.500 years, it is one of the oldest, largest, and best-preserved monuments in human history. It is known as the oldest unbroken ship in the world and has been called “a marvel of woodcraft”; if it were placed in the water today, it would still be able to sail. The boat may demonstrate the sophisticated navigational techniques, craftsmanship, and technology of the time. The vessel’s function was to transport King Khufu through the afterlife and across the galaxy to heaven. The boat was one of two discovered in 1954 which was built with a flat bottom composed of several planks that were reconstructed from 1,224 pieces. It is now located at the Grand Egyptian Museum.
