Who is Queen Nefertari?
One of Egypt’s greatest monarchs, Queen Nefertari was the cherished main wife of the famous Pharaoh Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great. She belonged to the 19th dynasty during the New Kingdom (1550–1070 BC) (1303-1213 BC). She was the first wife and favorite of the king. He married her before ascending to the throne of Egypt; she was not a daughter of the monarch but a woman of actual nobility. The king wed her when she was 13 years old and he was 15 years old. Ramses has almost 200 children, but only four boys named Amun-her-Khepeshef, Pareherwenemef, Meriatum, and Meryre are descended from Nefertari. Also, Meritamen and Henuttawy, have two daughters.
The Best Titles of the Queen Nefertari
Queen Nefertari is regarded as the epitome of beauty in Egypt. Her name translates to “beautiful companion believer of Mut,” and she also goes by the names “Sweet of Love,” “Bride of God,” “Lady of the Two Lands,” “Great Wife of the King,” and “Wife of God.”
When Did Queen Nefertari Die?
She died in 1256 B.C. from the age of 40 to 50. Her tomb, which Ramses II erected, is the most exquisite and spacious in the Valley of the Queens. It is a perfect illustration of exquisite design and a clear indication of how significant women were to ancient Egyptian society. It included beautiful decorations, well-preserved wall paintings representing her typical day-to-day activities, poetry, and sacred texts from the book of the dead. Although tomb raiders took her sarcophagus and mummy, certain fragments of her tomb are still on display in the Egyptian museum.
Temple of Nefertari in Abu Simbel
It was the smallest temple in Abu Simbel Temples, dedicated to Hathor (goddess of joy, love, and happiness), that Ramses II built for Nefertari to display his love and dedication to her. It features a magnificent statue of her beside Ramses and the gods.
