Esna

Egypt’s Esna is a city. It is 55 kilometers south of Luxor on the west bank of the Nile. Prior to December 9, 2009, the town was a part of the contemporary Qena Governorate; however, as of that day, it is now a part of the contemporary Luxor Governorate.

Esna on a Nile cruise

Esna, about an hour south of Luxor, is where Nile cruise ships pass through the Esna lock. The town's Temple of Khnum, recently cleaned to reveal its original painted ceiling, sits several metres below street level in the town centre.
