Elephantine Island is an island in the Nile that is located across from Aswan. The 18th and 19th dynasties’ pharaohs constructed a sizable temple there for the island’s traditional gods, Khnum, Sati, and Anuket. It has Aswan Museum and an ancient milometer in the form of ancient stairs leading into the river cut into the rock, as well as a number of spectacular rock tombs and shrines of the Old and Middle Kingdom nobility of the city.
