The usual route runs south along the Nile to Edfu and then east across the desert on the Edfu–Marsa Alam road, about 370 km and 4 to 4.5 hours with a rest stop. Because the road passes Edfu, you can add a guided visit to the Temple of Horus on the way to the coast.
