Kom Ombo

One of the most distinctive temples in Aswan, if not all of Egypt, is Kom Ombo Temple. As “Kom” in Arabic means “Hill” and “Ombo” in hieroglyphics signifies gold, Kom Ombo is translated as “The Hill of Gold.”

Kom Ombo Temple tours

Kom Ombo, about 45 km north of Aswan, has an unusual double temple on a bend of the Nile: one half is dedicated to Sobek, the crocodile god, and the other to Haroeris, Horus the Elder. Each has its own entrance, halls and sanctuary. Next to the temple, the small Crocodile Museum displays mummified crocodiles found nearby.

Kom Ombo is a highlight of Nile cruises, often visited at sunset, and an easy stop on a road trip between Aswan and Luxor.
